Introduction

If you are pursuing NEBOSH Open Book Examination, you may have questions about the closing interview. This article aims to provide clarity on what the NEBOSH closing interview involves, its purpose, the necessary preparations, and how the process works. By understanding and preparing for the closing interview, you can enhance your chances of success.

What is a NEBOSH Closing Interview?

A NEBOSH closing interview is a mandatory one-on-one online meeting between a candidate and your NEBOSH trainer. The interview takes place after the candidate submits their exam paper and serves as a crucial component of the qualification process. It is a standard procedure followed in NEBOSH open-book exams, including qualifications such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate, NEBOSH Environment Certificate, and NEBOSH Construction Certificate.

Purpose of the NEBOSH Closing Interview

The primary purpose of the closing interview is to verify the candidate's identity and ensure that they completed the exam independently, without external assistance. During the interview, the interviewer assesses the candidate's understanding of the exam questions, the scenario presented, and their own answers. The interview acts as a measure to prevent learner malpractice, plagiarism (copy-paste), and collusion (solving paper in group). It is important to note that the closing interview is not graded or marked and does not affect the final exam result.

What Do You Need for the Closing Interview?

To attend the closing interview, there are a few essential requirements. Firstly, you must have a valid form of identification, such as a passport, or national ID card, to prove your identity. If the interview is conducted via video link, you will need a device (laptop, tablet, or smartphone) with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a suitable location where you can be alone and undisturbed for approximately 15 minutes.

The Closing Interview Process

The closing interview typically lasts no more than 15 minutes and follows a structured process. Here are the key steps involved:

·        Agree on Your Interview Date and Time: You will receive an interview date and time from your Institute, which should fall within two weeks of submitting your exam.

·        Your Interview Invite: Your learning partner will send you an email/Whatsapp with instructions on how to join the video call or provide information for an in-person interview.

·        Introductions: The interviewer will introduce themselves, establishing a professional and welcoming atmosphere.

·        Identification: You will present your identification to the interviewer, who will verify that it matches your registration details.

·        Showing Your Room: You will be required to show the room you are in to ensure that no one else is present, and there are no additional resources available.

NEBOSH Closing Interview Question Time:

The interviewer will ask you three questions based on your examination paper. These questions aim to assess your knowledge and understanding of the exam topics. It is expected that you answer the questions spontaneously without referring to any notes or external sources. Once you have provided your answers, the interview will conclude. However, please note that the interviewer cannot inform you of the outcome during the interview. You will have to wait for your final results.

Paperwork: The interviewer will complete a Closing Interview Record Sheet, which will be submitted to the learning partner for further processing.

What Happens After Your Interview?

If the interviewer is satisfied that the work is genuinely yours and there are no suspicions of malpractice, your exam grade will be communicated to you based on NEBOSH's specified timescales. However, if the interviewer suspects malpractice or is not convinced that the work is your own, they will report to NEBOSH and then, a representative of NEBOSH may conduct the interview once again.
